
Gary A. Varley, M.D. specializes in Laser Vision Correction and serves as the Medical Director for the Cincinnati Eye Institute's Laser Centers in Cincinnati and Dayton. His peers have recognized his expertise as a cornea and refractive surgeon by listing him in the Best Doctors in America as well as Top Doctors in Cincinnati (Cincinnati Magazine).
Dr. Varley completed his undergraduate studies graduating Summa Cum Laude at Alma College in Alma, Michigan. After receiving his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School, he completed his internship and residency in Ophthalmology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. He served as the Chief Resident for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation's Department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Varley spent an additional year of training as a Heed Ophthalmic Fellow specializing in cornea and external disease at the Iowa Lions Cornea Center at the University of Iowa. He also spent additional time at Louisiana State University studying refractive and excimer laser surgery with the pioneers in this field. After completing his training, he joined the professional staff at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation where he served as the principle investigator for the Cleveland Clinic's excimer laser program. During this time, he taught corneal surgery to ophthalmology residents and authored many peer-reviewed publications.
Dr. Varley joined the Cincinnati Eye Institute in 1994 as a Cornea and Refractive surgical specialist. Although he continues to perform cataract surgery and manages patients with challenging corneal disease, his primary focus is Laser Vision Correction (LASIK).
